PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane which exhibits relatively high ion conductivity, and a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: The polymer electrolyte membrane of the present invention is an ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane composed of a polymer. The polymer contains a hydrophobic main chain and a side chain bonded to the main chain. The side chain contains a hydrophobic main chain moiety and a plurality of side chain moieties bonded to the main chain moiety. Each of the side chain moieties contains a hydrophobic first moiety bonded to the main chain moiety and a second moiety bonded to the first moiety. The second moiety contains an ion conductive group.
