PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method of the hydrogen resistance of component material of a contact machine element, which accurately detects diffusible hydrogen entering the component material of a contact machine element in conditions approximate to the use situation of the contact machine element so as to accurately evaluate the hydrogen resistance of a material, a lubricant, or a lubricant additive.SOLUTION: A tabular specimen 7 made of a material for composing a contact machine element is arranged such that the rear face side is exposed to a diffusible hydrogen detecting chamber 2. A slidable member 15 is pressed against the front face side of the specimen 7 so as to be slid for generation of hydrogen. A part of the generated hydrogen enters the specimen 7 and then passes through the specimen 7 so as to be emitted into the diffusible hydrogen detecting chamber 2. Through the detection of the emitted hydrogen H, the hydrogen resistance of the component material of a contact machine element is evaluated. |
