A refrigerator provided with: a storage chamber which is demarcated by thermally-insulated walls and a thermally insulated door, and which stores storage items; a cooler for cooling the storage chamber; a damper (12) which controls the amount of cold air provided to the storage chamber; the thermally insulated door which covers the storage chamber; and door open/closed detection units (13a-13d) which detect if the thermally insulated door is open or closed. The refrigerator is also provided with: a cooling fan (10) which supplies cold air to the storage chamber; a fan motor which drives the cooling fan (10); a rotation speed detection unit (15) for detecting the rotation speed of the fan motor; and an arithmetic control unit (14) which arithmetically processes the detection results from the rotation speed detection unit (15). Furthermore, the arithmetic control unit (14) estimates the storage amount of the storage chamber on the basis of the detection results from the door open/closed detection units (13a-13d) and the detection results from the rotation speed detection unit (15). |
