<p>A compound having the 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure represented by general formula (1) (where R1 is an alkyl group and the like; A1 and A2 are each a 1,4-cyclohexylene group, 1,4-phenylene group, and the like; A3 is a group represented by general formula (A-1) or (A-2) (where W is a fluorine atom and the like and Y2, Y3, and Y4 are each a hydrogen atom, fluorine atom, and the like); Z1 and Z2 are each single bonds and the like; Y1 is a fluorine atom and the like; m and n are each 0, 1, 2, or 3; and m + n is 3) is highly compatible with other liquid crystal compounds, and when this compound is a component of a liquid crystal composition, it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal composition that has a low viscosity, shows a liquid crystal phase over a broad temperature range, and has both good shelf life and a high transparency point (T-i) and it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal display element having high-speed response and excellent display properties.</p> |
