PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patterned retarder type image display device having black strips, and a manufacturing method therefor.SOLUTION: The image display device comprises: a first substrate SU defined by a display area AA in which unit pixels are disposed in a matrix type and by a non-display area NA surrounding the display area AA; a second substrate SL attached to the first substrate SU by a sealant SE applied to the non-display area NA; a liquid crystal layer LC interposed between the first substrate SU and the second substrate SL attached to each other; a plurality of horizontal black strips BS arranged along a horizontal border dividing the unit pixels on an outer surface of the first substrate SU; and a frame strip OT arranged along the non-display area NA on the outer surface of the first substrate SU.
