PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a design of a pharmaceutical agent and a therapy.SOLUTION: A base of the present invention is the discovery of genetic polymorphisms that are associated with liver fibrosis and related pathologies. In particular, nucleic acid molecules containing the polymorphisms, variant proteins encoded by such nucleic acid molecules, reagents for detecting the polymorphic nucleic acid molecules and proteins, and methods of using the nucleic acid molecules and proteins as well as methods of using reagents for their detection are provided. In one embodiment, the identification of new SNPs, unique combinations of such SNPs, and haplotypes of SNPs that are associated with liver fibrosis are provided. |
