The present invention provides systems and methods for diagnosing and monitoring neurodegenerative disorders comprising detecting an Alphabeta species in a biological sample from a subject. In one embodiment, the method comprises detecting pathological Alphabeta oligomer (Alphabetaomicron), and therefore provides a diagnostic test for neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Alzheimer's disease (AD)). In one embodiment, the pathological Alphabetaomicron can be detected using a polypeptide comprising the Alphabeta-interacting domain of PrPc (e.g., PrPc(23-lll)). |
