PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable minimization of variations in a refractive index distribution of a GI-type multimode optical fiber resulting from residual stress caused in a core part in drawing, thereby effectively preventing deterioration of transmission characteristics of the multimode optical fiber resulting from the drawing.SOLUTION: In a GI-type multimode optical fiber, an α value of a GI-type refractive index distribution is 1.9 to 2.2, a maximum relative refractive index difference &Dgr; is 0.8 to 2.4%, and a diameter of a core part is 47.5 to 52.5 μm or 60 to 65 μm. Both of a maximum tensile stress and a maximum compressive stress remaining in the core part in the optical axis direction are 50 MPa or less. |
