The machine e.g. program dishwasher (10), has a cleaning chamber (12) limited by walls (18, 20). The walls are cooled on an outer side by a fluid (24). A freely diverting compressor (50) i.e. radial flow compressor, is centrally arranged at a ceiling (22) of the cleaning chamber. A closed air circuit (70) is formed within the cleaning chamber during a drying operation of the machine. A dehumidifying track is formed for an air flow (58) along the cooled walls. A torus-shaped air flow is formed in the cleaning chamber during the drying operation. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cleaning machine.
