The flow meter has a measurement device (8) formed as an admittance measurement device for an empty pipe detection and including a sensor i.e. resonator, with an electrode (10) that is connected with an alternating-signal source. The electrode is acted with an alternating signal while an electric field of the electrode extends in a conductive medium. The electrode and a counter electrode (11) are arranged opposite to each other on an outer surface of a measuring tube (3). The electrode is arranged above a longitudinal axis (5) of the tube while the counter electrode is arranged below the axis. The measuring tube is surrounded by a support housing that is made from metal.
