The device (100) has a receiving unit (110) receiving a state variable (112) depending on condition of a cooling circuit. A controlling unit (120) controls an electrical machine, so that current in the electrical machine is impressed based on the received state variable to heat a coolant circulated in the cooling circuit. The current in the electrical machine causes power dissipation based on coolant temperature and the state variable, where the coolant temperature is 70 to 120 degree Celsius. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling an electric machine (2) a computer program including a set of instructions for controlling an electric machine.
