PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment method capable of rapidly and stably removing formaldehyde from formaldehyde-containing raw water, and a water treatment system.SOLUTION: A water treatment method includes a reaction process for reacting aldehydes contained in raw water with hydrogensulfite ions to form α-hydroxy-sulfonic acid ions and a removing process for removing the α-hydroxy-sulfonic acid ions. Further, the water treatment system 1 has an hydrogensulfite ion source compound adding means 2 for adding a hydrogensulfite ion source compound to raw water, a mixing means 3 for mixing the raw water and the hydrogensulfite ion source compound and reacting aldehydes contained in the raw water with the hydrogensulfite ions to form α-hydroxy-sulfonic acid ions and removing means 5 and 8 for removing the α-hydroxy-sulfonic acid ions formed in the mixing means 3.
