This power steering system is equipped with: an electric pump (11) that supplies a fluid to a power steering unit (13) for assisting with the steering performance of a steering wheel (4a); and an EUC (5) that controls the amount of the fluid to be supplied according to a rotation speed of the electric pump (11). Furthermore, the EUC (5) is equipped with a first means that calculates an on-slope standby rotation speed (N0') by correcting a standby rotation speed (N0) of the electric pump (11), which corresponds to a vehicle speed (Vn) when the vehicle (1) is travelling on a downslope or an upslope, with a slope correction value (Nx) that is calculated according to a slope angle (theta) or a vehicle body angle (thetan), and controls the electric pump (11) so as to attain the on-slope standby rotation speed (N0'). Thus, while the fluid is supplied by the electric pump (11) so as to assist with the steering operation, a feeling of catch-up during the steering operation due to an insufficient steering force during downslope traveling and a feeling of insufficient responsiveness of the steering operation due to an excessive steering force during upslope traveling can be suppressed. |
