[Class 44.] Means for preventing opening a closed sliding window, or preventing further opening of a partly open window comprises a bolt with bevelled nose 2 and shot by a spring 4 into engagement with a rack 8, the teeth of which are inclined to allow the window to be moved freely towards the closed position. The bolt may be withdrawn from engagement by a knob 3 on its outer end and held withdrawn by a rotation of the bolt, causing a screwed pin 5, normally engaging the longitudinal portion of an L-shaped slot 6 in the bolt head, to engage in the circumferential portion. The Provisional Specification describes alternative devices one of which comprises a pinion engaging a rack and controlled by a clutch device having a non-rotating rod axially slidable through the boss of the pinion and carrying a cross-pin engaging a clutch portion on the boss, and another form which comprises a lever engaging at one end with the rack and at the other end provided with an operating knob. |
