A TRIP SWITCH AND A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR COUPLING A DC POWER SUPPLY TO AN AC POWER SUPPLY

A trip switch (1) for providing a low voltage switched output comprises a housing (3) defining a hollow interior region (4). A light emitting diode (10) mounted on a printed circuit board (9) located in the hollow interior region (4) produces a light beam which is reflected onto a light sensitive bi-state switch (11) also provided on the printed circuit board (10). A trip element (18) carries a concave mirror (19) for reflecting light from the light emitting diodes (10) to the switch (11). The trip element (18) comprises a substantially spherical member (22) which is located in a partly spherical socket (22) formed in the housing (3) and is tiltable from a first state reflecting light from the light emitting diode (10) to the switch (11) for operating the switch (11) in a first closed circuit state, to a second state tilted away from a central axis (5) of the housing (4) so that light from the light emitting diode (10) is no longer directed to the switch (11) for operating the switch (11) in a second open circuit state. A mushroom head actuator element (30) is coupled to the trip element (18) for operating the trip element (18) from the first state to the second state.
