A locking electrical connector (e.g. an IEC-type or kettle plug socket) comprises a main body having a first end region 18 with one or more electrical contacts and a second end region 24 which has a protective guide 12 through which a flexible conductor extends. The main body of the connector has a locking mechanism 20 which allows the connector to be selectively released or secured to a complementary connector, wherein a release control 14 acts on the locking mechanism 20. The release control 14 is operable at a position further from the first end 18 of the connector than the second end 24. The release control 14 may comprise a spring-biased tab formation 21 which operatively connects with the locking mechanism 20. A handle 15 of open-sided tubular form may depend from the second end region 24 of the main body and may be formed integrally with the tab 21. The handle 15 may have four aperture side faces, each side face having a curved surface 27 allowing a finger to move the handle 15 away from the main body, thereby sliding the tab 21 against the bias of the spring 25 and effecting release of the locking mechanism 20 and separation of the two connectors. |
