This vacuum degassing tank includes a refractory, in which at least the part that comes into contact with molten slag comprises a carbon-containing magnesia refractory. The carbon-containing magnesia refractory contains 7-28 mass%, excluding 28 mass%, graphite and 3.5-14 mass% Al-Mg alloy, with the remainder comprising magnesia and incidental impurities, wherein the mass ratio calculated by dividing the mass of the Al-Mg alloy by the mass of the graphite is 0.5-2.0.
