PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lath for a mortar substrate, in which vertical and horizontal wire rods cross one another in a grid pattern in vertical and horizontal directions, with their respective intersecting points being joined together by welding, and which is reinforced and stiffened using the wire rods arranged at intervals of the fixed number of the vertical and horizontal wire rods as a vertical-force and horizonal-force ribs, larger in diameter than the vertical and horizontal wire rods, and to provide a mortar wall structure of a building, which is constructed by laying mortar using the lath for the substrate. SOLUTION: The wire rods at the intervals of the fixed number of the vertical and horizontal wire rods 2 and 3 are used as the vertical-force and horizontal-force ribs 4 and 5, larger in diameter than the vertical and horizontal wire rods; and a bent portion 4a protruding toward a backside in a position at each regular interval is formed on either or both of the vertical-force and horizonal-force ribs 4 and 5.
