[Class 46.] Straining-apparatus is provided with two or more superposed straining layers one of which is composed of a coiled and stranded or otherwise twisted filament and another of a plain coiled filament. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which an inner layer is formed by coiling a stranded wire 11 on a rigid support and an outer layer by coiling a plain wire 22 in the turns of the wire 11. The wires may be separated by fabric 23. The liquid strains inwards and the outer layer may be kept clear by means of a scraper 28 as described in Specification 396,156. Fig. 3 shows a modified arrangement in which the inner layer is formed of two stranded wires 25, 26 wound as a two-start spiral and the outer layer by winding a plain wire 27 in the helical groove between the two inner wires. Instead of wire strands of fibre, sometimes reinforced by wire, or of rubber may be used. |
