A propulsion device for a ship and a ship having the same are disclosed. The propulsion device for the ship according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a rear propeller fixed to a rotary shaft; a front propeller supported to the rotary shaft in front of the rear propeller to be rotated; a gear box received in an installation space formed in the rear end of a hull; a counter rotating device which is installed inside of the gear box and has multiple bevel gears for reversing the rotation of the rotary shaft and transferring the reversed rotation to the front propeller; and a thrust bearing unit which is installed on the rotary shaft in front of the gear box and prevents the axial displacement of the rotary shaft.
