[Class 8 (ii).] In a device for effecting movements e.g. in the field of a microscrope, a hand-operated control member is connected to a receiving member by transmission means giving great reduction of movement, the transmission means being of the pneumatic type, unidirectional components of the movement of the control member being separately transmitted. The device may operate an injection needle or needles, or may be applied to writing and engraving in microscopic characters, or to retouching photographs or sound inscriptions on kinematograph films. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the control member comprises a lever 4 universally mounted at 5 and adapted to act through adjustably mounted cams 12<1>, 12<2> on the pistons 10 of cylinders 9<1>, 9<2>; a sleeve 7 slidable on the lever is connected to the piston of a cylinder 9<3>. The cylinders are connected by tubes 81, 8<2>, 8<3> to expansible chambers 11<1>, 11<2>, 11<3>, or their equivalents, carried by a frame 19, a fixed plate 17, and a frame 18 respectively. The frame 18 pivots about a vertical axis under the action of the chamber 11<2>, the frame 19 about a horizontal axis under the action of the chamber 113 and the chamber 11<1> acts on a needle holder 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises other forms. In one, the chambers are mounted inside a casing capable of preliminary adjustment in any direction. In a modification, the lever 4 acts on the pistons of the cylinders 9<1>, 9<2> through connecting rods 97<1>, 972, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), and adjustable cranks, and the movements of the lever are braked at 103 or elsewhere. In a receiver device, deformable parallelograms or parallelopipeds are employed, the needle 16 being pivotally carried by a plate 110, Fig. 14 (Cancelled), forming one side of a parallelogram the opposite side of which is fixed to a plate 114 ; the plate 114 forms one side of a parallelogram having a fixed side 113. If desired the needle may be carried from the plate 110 by a third parallelogram. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
