The image pickup unit (10) has an electronic image sensor (12) having contact fingers (26,28) arranged on a board (14). The electronic or electrical components (16a,16b) are arranged on a light receiving surface of image sensor. A board (18) arranged parallel to board (14) is formed with several holes for passage of the wires (66) of cable (20). The board (14) is formed with the contact points electrically contacted with the ends of the wires. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing image pickup unit.
