PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a downsized coin depositing and dispensing machine suitable for use in a financial institution. SOLUTION: The coin depositing and dispensing machine includes a coin sorting passage, a plurality of coin sorting holes, denomination-based temporary coin storage boxes 30a, 30b, 30c, 30d, 30e, 30f, a shutter plate 33 with openings formed in a matrix state therein, chutes 35a, 35b, 35c, 35d, 35e, 35f leading to dispensing coin storage boxes, and a returning coin collection box 38. When coins in the temporary coin storage boxes are returned, the temporary coin storage boxes are moved from an initial position to a coin returning position right above the returning coin collection box, and the coins are collected in the returning coin collection box. When the coins in the temporary coin storage boxes are deposited, the shutter plate 33 is moved from an initial position to a storage position, and the openings in the matrix state formed in the shutter plate 33 are selectively communicated to one of the temporary coin storage boxes 30a, 30b, 30c, 30d, 30e, 30f, to store the coins in one of the dispensing coin storage boxes.
