The engine has an igniter comprising a catalyst unit (5) in a form of an electrical heated cartridge or pill made of ceramic or metallic material. The catalyst unit is provided with a surface coating of polycrystalline platinum. The catalyst unit is arranged in an auxiliary chamber (4) separated from a main combustion chamber (1) of the engine. The catalyst unit is equipped with redundant heating coils and an electrical heater connector (6). The auxiliary chamber rests laterally to the main combustion chamber. The main combustion chamber is provided with a liquid fuel inlet (2). The cryogenic liquid gas is liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.
