[Class 53] A dry battery comprises a number of dishshaped insulating containers 1, each of which has an electrode 2, 3 on opposite sides of its base, the electrodes being drawn together against the base by a screw 8 passing through an aperture in the base. The screw may be made of the same material as the electrode 3 and may enter a tapped hole in the electrode 2. To prevent electrolyte from reaching the screw a packing ring 10 may be provided on one or both sides of the base of the container. If the screw is of different material from the electrode 3 it may be varnished to prevent corrosion. The electrolyte may be in dry form and may be contained in an absorbent pad 11, the battery being activated by immersion in water which can pass through holes 12 in the containers 1. |
