The present invention relates to a remote metering system and a remote metering method assigning an ID of a relay device automatically which generate and assign an inherent ID of the device automatically, and form a communication channel between communication devices, and enables smooth communication by preventing overlapping of the ID in generating the ID. The remote metering system assigning an ID automatically of the present invention includes: an input part receiving an ID setting mode conversion signal; a wireless communication part performing wireless communication with a relay device receiving metering information from a meter; an ID generation part generating an ID of the relay device if the ID setting mode conversion signal is inputted to the input part; a storing part storing the ID of the delay device generated by the ID generation part; and a control part controlling the wireless communication part to transmit the ID of the relay device generated by the ID generation part to the relay device.
