The present invention relates to an electrophoretic light shutter display device and a driving method thereof, capable of improving a contrast ratio and a response speed of an image. The electrophoretic light shutter display device according to the embodiment of the present invention includes: a first TFT array substrate with charged particles and solvents which are filled in a plurality of pixel areas which are formed by a first partition; a second TFT array substrate which is arranged on the upper surface of the first TFT array substrate and includes the charged particles and solvents which are filled in the pixel areas which are formed by a second partition; an encapsulating substrate which is interposed between the first TFT array substrate and the second TFT array substrate; an optical source which emits light to the first TFT array substrate; and a driving circuit part which drives the first TFT array substrate, the second TFT array substrate, and the optical source.
