PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase terahertz wave output power.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave emission device 1 includes a non-linear crystal 10 and a prism 16. The non-linear crystal 10, which receives excitation light Lp having two or more wavelength components λ1, λ2 and outputs a terahertz wave with a frequency between 0.01 THz and 100 THz, inclusive, via Cherenkov phase matching, has a protruded portion (optical waveguide) 10a. The prism 16 has an electromagnetic wave incident surface 16a which receives the terahertz wave from the protruded portion 10a, and an electromagnetic wave transmitting surface 16b which transmits the electromagnetic wave that has entered from the electromagnetic wave incident surface 16a. The electromagnetic wave transmitting surface 16b is a curved surface that follows a trace formed by rotating a tilted line segment L, which is at an angle with a center axis C-C of the electromagnetic incident surface 16a, about the center axis C-C. The tilted line segment L and the center axis C-C are coplanar. The center axis C-C is in parallel with an extending direction of the protruded portion 10a. The center axis C-C passes through a projection of the protruded portion 10a onto the electromagnetic wave incident plane 16a. |
