PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal that facilitates touch operation to an image displayed in an upper area of a vertically oriented display screen provided on the front surface of a housing.SOLUTION: A portable information terminal includes: a touch panel 20 provided with a vertically oriented display screen 21 on the front surface 13 of a thin housing 10 and configured to detect touch operation to the display screen 21; a slide sensor 4 provided on the left-side surface 11 or right-side surface 12 of the thin housing 10 and configured to detect slide operation in a longitudinal direction to the display screen 21; and drawing area control means configured to form on the display screen 21 a main drawing area 23b and a sub drawing area 23a both capable of receiving touch operation by aligning the areas in the longitudinal direction and to change their alignment order on the basis of the slide operation.
