PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of charging an electrochemical cell containing an electrolyte for a lithium/sulfur electrochemical cell showing one of (1) low self-discharge rate, (2) high cathode utility factor, (3) high charge-discharge rate and/or (4) high specific capacity.SOLUTION: A method of charging a lithium-sulfur electrochemical cell is disclosed. The lithium-sulfur electrochemical cell includes a cathode containing an electrically active sulfur-containing material, an anode containing lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. A method of determining the end of charge when charging a lithium-sulfur cell is also disclosed. The method includes a step for monitoring the cell voltage while charging, and a step for ending the charging when the monitored voltage is within a range of 2.8-3.7 V. |
