PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp in which arc discharge can be stabilized in the initial stage of lighting.SOLUTION: The metal halide lamp has a translucent outer tube having a base formed at one end, and a light-emitting part disposed in the outer tube. The metal halide lamp is vertical type and mounted so that the base becomes the upper side. A light-emitting tube is filled with mercury and a metal halide, and when the rated power of the lamp is P(W), the density d(Hg)(μmol/cm) of mercury in the light-emitting tube falls in a range of ±10% of the mercury density d(Hg) determined according to the following equation d(Hg)=0.0007 P-0.4113 P+99.557. |
