PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract an appropriate still image that represents certain news, from among moving images of the news.SOLUTION: In a representative still image extraction apparatus 1, an input unit 10 receives input of: news moving image data; text data indicating contents related to images of the news contained in the news moving image; and synchronization data indicating association between the text data and the news images. A summary sentence extraction unit 13 identifies the text data from the synchronization data indicating an image section of an anchor shot to retrieve a summary sentence. A subject extraction unit 14 extracts a word that becomes a subject from the summary sentence, and a most similar sentence extraction unit 15 extracts the most similar summary sentence from among sentences other than the summary sentence indicated by the text data. A representative still image extraction unit 18 identifies an image corresponding to the text data that contains the most similar sentence on the basis of the synchronization data, selects cuts that contain an object corresponding to a subject from among cuts contained in the specified image, and then extracts a representative still image from the selected cuts. |
