The cylinder has a metallic cylinder base body (1) comprising an outer mantle surface (4). The cylinder base body is coated in a region of the outer mantle surface. A coating comprises a plastic layer (2) attached on the outer mantle surface of the metallic cylinder base body and a metallic or ceramic material layer (3) attached on the plastic layer. The plastic layer is made of thermoplastic resin. The plastic layer is formed as a polyamide layer and an injection molding layer. The plastic layer is attached directly on the outer mantle surface of the metallic cylinder base body. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a printing machine roller (2) a method for manufacture of a printing machine cylinder or a printing machine roller.
