PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium secondary battery, capable of achieving longer cycle life of a lithium secondary battery.SOLUTION: A negative electrode material for a lithium secondary battery comprises powder formed by performing a step of etching a foil mainly containing Al to prepare an etched foil, a step of cutting the etched foil to obtain particles, and a step of further etching the particles obtained by cutting the etched foil, in the order. Each particle constituting the powder has a size that is capable of passing through a 0.1-mm-opening sieve (based on JIS Z8801-1). The powder, which is an assembly of the etched particles, has a specific surface area as determined by a BET method of 1.0 m/g or more. |
