PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium metal composite oxide having a layer structure, and especially excellent as the positive electrode active material of a battery mounted on an electric car or a hybrid automobile.SOLUTION: In the lithium metal composite oxide having a layer structure and represented by a general formula LiMO(M:a metal element including three elements of Mn, Co and Ni), D50 is 4-20 μm, the ratio (called "primary particle area/secondary particle area") of the primary particle area to the secondary particle area of secondary particles having a size corresponding to D50 is 0.004-0.035, and the minimum value of powder collapse strength determined by collapsing the powder by using a micro compression tester is larger than 70 MPa. |
