The invention relates to a method for operating a dryer (1) comprising a control unit (8), a drum (3) for pieces of laundry to be dried, a process air duct (2) in which a process air blower (6) for conveying the process air and a heating unit (4) for heating the process air are located, and a variable-speed motor (13) which drives the process air blower (6). The method comprises a heat-up phase, a semi-stationary drying phase and a cool-down phase, the process air blower (6), during the heat-up phase, being operated in at least one interval at a speed omega2 which is reduced as compared to the semi-stationary drying phase. For this purpose, the motor (13) is operated at a reduced speed alpha2 and the variable-speed motor (13) is a brushless direct current motor that additionally drives the drum (3). The invention further relates to a dryer suitable for performing said method. |
