摘要 <p>The invention relates to a self-drilling screw (10) made of an austenitic or other stainless steel, comprising a shaft having a thread-forming region and a drilling tip (16). The shaft (12) is made of an austenitic or other stainless steel as one piece and is provided with a galvanically applied thin layer (20) at least in the area of the tip, whereby the area provided with the layer (20) is harder than an uncoated area, wherein the thin layer (20) has a pearl- or columnar-structured surface, a layer thickness of at least 2 µm and preferably up to 30 µm, and a hardness in a range of 500 to 1500 HV0.3. The self-drilling screw (16) is easier to produce than a common self-drilling screw, in which the drilling tip is made of a harder material than the shaft and is welded to the shaft made of stainless steel. The self-drilling screw (16) is thus a fully austenitic self-drilling screw made of a base material, which is provided with a hard coating. The coating ensures the drilling performance and the thread forming. In addition to the lower manufacturing costs, the corrosion resistance of the self-drilling screw (16) is a further advantage.</p>
