The battery (10) has battery cells (12) comprising cell housings (14) enclosing an inner space of the battery cells in a gastight manner. A battery housing (16) encloses the battery cells in a moisture-tight manner. The battery housing is filled with inert gas (24). The battery cells are assembled to a battery module. A filling terminal (26) introduces the inert gas into the battery housing. A closure element is provided for gastight closing of a pressure equalization element of the battery housing. The battery housing comprises a cover (20) connected with a base plate (18). The inert gas comprises nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide and/or noble gas. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a battery.
