The method involves preforming a product into a product-forming shaft (6), where the preformed product portion (10) is fed on the central area between the lateral longitudinal edges (2a,2b) of packing material web (2) directed below the product-forming shaft from the packing material. The lateral longitudinal edges of the packing material web are upwardly and inwardly folded to the longitudinal side surfaces of the preformed product portion. The packing material is cut into lengths by forming a finished wrapper transverse to its longitudinal side edges.
