<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lift which can be lowered to a safe place even when the lift is stopped during power failure. <P>SOLUTION: In the lift capable of freely elevating/lowering an elevating/lowering body by a driving motor via a rotatable pinion along a rail having a rack and vertically hanged, the driving motor has the braking function of stopping an elevating/lowering mechanism when the power supply is interrupted. By releasing the brake function by a manual lowering device, the elevating/lowering body can be lowered at the predetermined speed while applying the brake by a drum brake.
