PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for efficiently producing carbon nanotubes capable of producing the CNT by applying a CVD method. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for producing the CNT includes a cylindrical body 10 inclined so as to have a lower downstream side 10b and placed to be rotatable, a catalyst supplying portion 30 to supply catalyst powders P into a chamber 11 formed at the inside of the cylindrical body 10, a carbon source supplying portion 40 to supply carbon source steam V and a heater 7 capable of heating a reaction zone 12 set in at least a partial range of the chamber 11 to a generating temperature of the CNT. As projected parts are arranged on the inner peripheral wall of the cylindrical body 10, it is so constituted that the catalyst powders P are moved from an upstream side to a downstream side while repeating lifting by being hooked on the projected parts and falling by the rotation of the cylindrical body 10.
