[Class 39 (i)] A discharge device comprises a non-thermionic cathode which carries luminescent material and also a material, such as alkaline earth metals and compounds thereof, which prolongs the life of the luminescent material by reducing the cathode drop. The material reducing the cathode fall may be placed under or beside, or mixed with, or cover in the form of a transparent layer, the luminescent material. The electrodes may be grid-shaped, and the filling may consist of gas or vapour or mixtures thereof. |
