The present invention relates to a media device and, more particularly, to a media device connected to an external device and a control method for the same. The media device according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a content playback unit for playing content including a plurality of characters and detecting the time information of the playing content; a motion code storage unit for storing motion code files by the characters; a character selection unit for selecting at least one among the characters; and a sync control unit for receiving a motion code file corresponding to the selected character from the motion code storage unit, receiving the time information from the content playback unit, and extracting a motion code corresponding to the time information from the received motion code file such that the motion code can be used for the external device.
