The heater (1) has a heating element (2) having a PTC element which serves to heat a flowing medium. The PTC element has a row that consists of several webs (4) that are interconnected via a connecting zone (6). The PTC element is electrically connected in two opposite edge zones that are perpendicular to the direction of flow of the medium for current lead-in or lead-out. The connecting zone is configured to be interspaced from the electrically contacted edge zones and the interspaced outer ends of outer webs (4a) are positioned on the outside of it serve for current lead-in or lead-out.
