A method and apparatus generate an image in positron emission tomography (PET). An image generating method comprises the steps of: detecting signals emitted from tracers introduced into a target; dividing the detected signals into sections at predetermined intervals, and generating unit signals for each of the sections by accumulating signals within the section with respect to each of the sections; classifying the unit signals into a plurality of groups based on the characteristics of each of the unit signals; and generating a medical image for the target from the unit signals classified into the groups.
