[Class 65 (ii)] [See also Group XVII] A box or like container 1 comprises a lid 2 constructed to close the container hermetically, formed with a flange 8 and hinged to the body of the container along a line outside the seal formed between the lid and the container by means of a hook or tongue 13 formed on said flange and enclosing an outside curl 7 formed on and extending partly or wholly round the body of the container, the inside edge of the curl on the body of the container, where this curl is embraced by the hook 13, being formed with a slot 14 so that the curl is open in nature to permit tilting of the lid by the end of the hook 13 passing up between the inside edge of the curl and the body of the container during the tilting movement whereby the tongue is guided by the side walls of the slot when the lid is tilted. The slot in the curl 7 may be obtained by forming slits in the curl 7 and forcing out the portion 7a of the curl between the slits, or the metal forming the curl in the region of the hinge may be cut away, the cuts being continued if desired into the curl to facilitate forcing out of the curl to accommodate hooks of varying radii on the lid.
