<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber including a novel piston stopper mechanism good in assembling efficiency and capable of stopping a piston at a required position. <P>SOLUTION: In the shock absorber 11, an elastic pawl 45 as a structural member of a piston stopper 19 engages with a circumferential groove 35 engraved in the inner periphery wall of a cylinder 13 to constrain the axial movement of the piston stopper 19. At this time, when the tensile force of a load operates on the piston 15 via a piston rod 17, the tensile force is supported by an abutment face 41a of the piston stopper 19 but the axial movement of the piston stopper 19 remains constrained.
