Disclosed are compounds of formula D-À-A (wherein D is an electron donor group, A is an electron acceptor group, À is a chromophore group, and wherein at least one of D and A at least comprises peri-fused aromatic ring structure comprising at least one heteroatom wherein a number of the rings is four or more), and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) incorporating the same as a sensitization dye.
