The present invention relates to a method for controlling an electric power steering device. The method comprises the steps of: calculating auxiliary torque based on absolute angle of a motor inputted from a motor absolute angle detecting unit and a speed inputted from a speed sensor by a control unit if the malfunction is generated in a torque sensor; and providing auxiliary force as the control unit applies a current corresponded to the auxiliary torque to the motor. According to the present invention, the auxiliary force is maintained for the predetermined time if the malfunction is generated in the torque sensor of the vehicle in which the electric power steering device is installed so that it is prevented for a driver to feel the steering difference caused by suddenly converting into a manual mode and the driving stability of the vehicle can be secured.
