A drive of a circular knitter includes an electric motor and a vertical drive shaft kinematically connected to each other by means of a V-belt gear and toothed gear. At that the toothed wheel of the toothed gear is installed on the vertical drive shaft. Additionally it is equipped with a safety clutch installed on the vertical drive shaft and connected to the toothed wheel of the toothed gear.
